Corfu

back

The old citadel (Palaio Frourio) is an old Venetian fortress with fortifications surrounding its entire perimeter.

Corfu is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. It is hard to summarize the history of Corfu. It has been influenced (often involved in wars) by the Greeks, the Venetians, the Corinthians, the Romans, the French (Napolean), the Russians, and the English. Corfu has long been the home of many of the world's most wealthy. Among those with homes in Corfu are members of the Rothschild family and Russian oligarchs.

The Romans influence from the 3rd and 4th century can be found. Nero, Julius Caesar, and Cicero all visited the island and many wealthy Romans had estates here.
