Bari, Italy was our first port of call. The Basilica of San Nicola (Saint Nicholas, AKA Santa Klaus), dates from the 11th century, and is worth a look.
The city's medieval fortress, the Norman-Swabian Castle, reminds of those often found in Bavaria. It was built in the 13th century.
From the ship's dock, to reach the "Old Town", head left along Lungomare Imperatore Augusto, you'll see this broad archway set into the old walls (10 minute walk).
We walked the old town, and then had a glass of wine at Le Mura, on Via Venezia, 33.
